What is Whisper?
Whisper is an app available on Android and iOS which allows users to share secrets anonymously.
Founded in 2012, whisper quickly rose to fame due to it's anonymity feature.
Whisper prompts users to share secrets and then searches and suggests a stock photo which resembles their words. If users don't like the photo Whisper offers they are able to upload a photo of their choice.
The result is a powerful image displaying the user's secret in an overlapping bold text.
Although 'whispers' are 100% anonymous, users are still able to comment on the posts and even anonymously send the poster a message.
Why not just share the 'whispers' via the Whisper site?
Although many 'Whispers' can be uplifting, inspirational and thought provoking, the site is loosely moderated.
For Example: If you go to 'Whisper' and search for a term such as Sexual Assault in an effort to connect with others, you run the risk of coming across people suffer from ignorance. Some of those users post 'Whispers' which could really derail the recovery process of Victims and Survivors. Additionally, searching a term such as 'Sexual Assault' or 'Rape' can flood your screen with an array of images. Not only can those images can be inappropriate, some may inadvertently trigger Victims & Survivors of Sexual Assault.
The last thing Sexual Assault Services would want to do is impede the healing process of a victim.
That is why we opted to create our own gallery of 'whispers' which is more closely moderated.
When possible, we will include a direct link to the original 'whisper' allowing our readers to decide if they would like to reach out to the initial author of the quotes we have selected to use.
