What happens when I call?
-
An advocate will answer the line 24/7. They may ask for some basic demographic information, such as your age, gender, or other general details, along with a good phone number for follow-up if needed. You will be connected with support right away, and an advocate will help guide you through next steps and provide resources.
What if what happened was a long time ago?
-
You can still call. Some people reach out right away, while others contact us years later. No matter when it happened, we will listen and provide support.
If I call, do I have to talk to the police?
-
No. You are not required to report what happened to law enforcement. It is entirely your choice. Advocates will provide guidance and support without pressuring you or involving the police.
Will you tell anyone about what I share?
-
Our services are free and confidential. This means we do not share your information or even that you contacted us. However, we are mandated reporters under Minnesota law. If we believe a child under 18 is being abused or neglected, we may have to share certain information with authorities to help keep them safe.
Can anyone call?
-
Yes. Our services are available to anyone who needs support, regardless of age, gender, or background.
Can I call for a friend?
-
Yes. We can help you figure out ways to support your friend, as well as process your own feelings about what happened.
Why should I call?
-
You may feel scared, angry, or sad. You may want support for yourself or for a friend. You may have questions, want to understand your rights, or need help accessing other services. You may need assistance making sure you’re safe.
