Join SAS as a Sexual Assault Advocate

Sexual assault advocates at SAS provide compassionate support while helping survivors rebuild confidence and take control of their lives. Advocates serve as guides—offering information, presenting choices, and walking alongside survivors through difficult moments.

Advocate Training:

SAS’s advocate training follows Minnesota State Statute §595.02 and provides over 40 hours of training across several weeks. Our program prepares you to provide direct support to survivors, including answering crisis line calls and offering hospital advocacy.

Additional specialized training is available for volunteers who want to:

  • Provide one-to-one peer counseling

  • Facilitate support groups

  • Deliver prevention and education programming in schools​

Volunteer Requirements:

​

To serve as a volunteer advocate, you must:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Complete Sexual Assault Advocacy Training

  • Attend quarterly staff meeting​

  • Work respectfully with people of all cultural, racial, sexual, gender, ability, and socio-economic backgrounds.

Volunteer Advocate Responsibilities:

​

As a volunteer advocate, your role may include:

  • Crisis phone counseling (including overnight and weekends)

  • Hospital advocacy (including overnight and weekends)

  • Participating in community education and prevention efforts

  • Collecting and recording accurate survivor data

  • Maintaining confidentiality of all agency and related information

  • Supporting administrative tasks and special projects
